Eurasia Tunnel

Project Description

The Eurasia Tunnel Project starts on Kennedy Street near Kazlıçeşme on the European Side and connects to Ankara State Highway around Göztepe Interchange on the Asian Side. The Project alignment length is approximately 14.6 km and requires the construction of a stacked 4-lane road tunnel beneath the Bosphorus Strait connecting the European and Asian shores of Istanbul as well as widening of approximately 9 km of existing roads leading to the tunnel.

As requested by UNESCO WHC we carried out a Heritage Impact Assessment study, in accordance with the “ICOMOS Guidance on Heritage Impact Assessments for Cultural World Heritage Properties”, in order to assess the potential impacts and the possible effects of the Project on the cultural landscape and, foremost, on the Outstanding Universal Value of the World Heritage site.

Project Design is being developed and improved in accordance with the recommendations of the assessment.
